[Retail Story 02]

At AK Plaza in Gyeonggi's Gwangmyeong, ride the escalator up and the Olive Young storefront opens onto a ChoiceDx Skin Scan zone.

AK Plaza sits on Yangji-ro in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province. Walk through its floor-to-ceiling glass entrance, and the surrounding apartment towers reflect right back at you — a sense of openness that fits a mall built at the heart of a new town. On weekends, it's where locals drop in for everyday shopping, nothing fancier than that.

Ride the escalator up to the Olive Young entrance, and a bakery-café counter greets you on the left before the beauty tools section pulls you further in.

Past the skin care section, toward the center of the storefront, a silver booth lines up directly with the entrance's central pillar. Dermo-care brands flank it on either side — the placement alone signals this is where skin consultations happen. A sign beside the booth offers a skin care sample to anyone who completes a scan, an easy nudge for first-time visitors to give it a try.

Step up, and the screen asks, "Would you like a skin diagnosis?" with English, Chinese, and Japanese language options. Pull back the curtain, and there it is — ChoiceDx, the diagnostic device used for in-store consultations and customer experiences. Follow the prompts, stand in front of the camera, and in about a minute, your skin condition is measured and analyzed.

As a department-store-style mall, this location sees heavy weekend foot traffic, and browsing the skin care aisle naturally leads into the Skin Scan zone. Once the scan is complete, the results — which support in-store consultations — are saved to the Olive Young app. After a short conversation with staff, customers naturally make their way to the nearby shelves. With dermo-care products stocked right next to the booth, it's easy to browse right after checking the results.
